Lighting Your Work Area With Commercial Grade Lights

When you need light to work by, the last thing you want is to have a light that gets knocked over and broken, causing an unsafe condition in your work area. Broken glass from a broken lens and bulb can be a real problem, and if the light is not working, it is going to be harder to see what needs to be cleaned up.

Industrial Lighting

There are a lot of different lighting options on the market, but they are not all suitable for every situation. Some of the lights intended for industrial use are large 220-volt lights that draw a lot of power but offer a lot of light. Many of these are protected by a metal guard so they do not get hit with a forklift or stock picker. Most of the time you will see these used in warehouses, production facilities, or very large garages. They are not really right for small work areas, but there are lights that provide a large amount of light and are better suited for small spaces.

Fluorescent Lighting Versus Incandescent

The type of lighting that you use to light your workspace is up to you, but the two most common types are fluorescent and incandescent lighting. Fluorescent lights offer a cooler bulb but are filled with gas that can cause the bulb to explode and spread glass over a large area if it is broken. The incandescent bulbs are less likely to do that if they are broken, but they can still make a mess. No matter which you choose, it is a good idea to put a guard over the bulb if the light will be used in an area in which equipment or tools are being used.

Light Fixtures

When you start considering how to put up the lights in your area, you will need to decide where you want them and how to mount them securely. Hanging the lights overhead might work for you, or putting them on a stand or bracket is another option. Whatever way you choose to mount them, make sure they provide enough light where you need it and are not in the way while you are working. You may also want to consider fixtures that have a heavy protective case around them to keep them from getting damaged but only if they will work the way you need them to. You can find a lot of different industrial grade work lights at your local home center, so take some time and choose one that will work best for your situation.
