What Couplers Typically Do, And What They Can Do Better Than Other Components

If you have industrial pipes, and you need them connected, think of them as a "partnered pair," and then think of the couplers that join them as the "couples therapist." It seems a strange comparison, until you hear the explanation and realize it is not. In fact, there is much more to what couplers do, and what they can do better than other components.

Couplers Secure Two Open Ends

The main job of couplers as components is to connect and secure two open ends of pipes. They can also couple pipes to vats, and machines to vats and pipes. If something needs a tight seal and a connection to something else, couplers are the right component to do it.

Couplers Form TIGHT Seals

Imagine trying to get two pipes to form a tight seal to prevent the leak of a potentially hazardous substance. Some pipe components almost get it right, but do you really want to take chances? Couplers, on the other hand, form the tightest seal possible, and leaks through couplers are very tight indeed. It is only when couplers get really old that they begin to fail. (That is kind of like couples counselors that are past their prime and behind in their education to consult the two trying to couple and stay together.)

What Couplers Do Better Than Other Components

Couplers work better than gaskets, but rubber gaskets used in conjunction with couplers are even better. Couplers work better for making a tight seal than bolted flanges too because there is still room between the two bolted flanges for a gas to leak through. Take a look around your industrial plant to see what components can be replaced with couplers, in order to improve plant efficiency, reduce lost fluids and gases, and aid in increased productivity through the reduction of gas and fluid losses.

Availability of Couplers

There are a lot of differently sized couplers made from all kinds of connections. The availability of these couplers is dependent upon the manufacturer and the demand for the size and style of couplers you want. However, contacting the manufacturer and several industrial suppliers in your area should turn up what you are looking for. If it does not, the call to the manufacturer will alert the company to what it is you are looking for and need. They can take your order and fill it within the next couple of weeks as they work to fill similar orders.
