Manage Your Use Of Pallets

When large shipments leave your factory's premises, do you have everything packed inside of separate corrugated boxes? If you tend to use this shipping approach, you may have an influx of pallets within your warehouse. Many vendors use pallets to ship large orders to aid in keeping everything neatly contained.

Implement a new way of doing things, which includes holding onto some pallets, using some for shipping needs, and recycling the ones not needed.

Inspect And Clean Your Inventory

All of the pallets that are inside of your business or stacked up on the dock may not be in the same condition. Some business owners tend to ship their customers products that are stacked on top of new pallets, but many individuals tend to reuse pallets and some of the ones that you have onsite may be damaged, dirty, or infested with pests.

Collect all of the pallets and place them outdoors. Look over the condition of each one and use a hose, a scrub brush, and detergent to clean each wooden slat. If any of the boards are splintered or if there are deep grooves in some of the slats, place these pallets aside and designate them as the ones that will be recycled.

Use Pallet Racks And Flooring

Once the pallets have dried, decide which ones will be used to ship goods. If you receive inventory on a frequent basis and most of the products are palletized, you may not have a need for a lot of extra pallets that will be used for shipping purposes. Use pallet racks to store the pallets that will be used to ship large orders.

If you tend to receive orders for bulky items that are already packed in cartons, using a pallet as the base of each shipment will be more beneficial than packing all of the merchandise in separate cartons. With a stack of items that are the same size, shrink wrap can be used to stabilize the merchandise and the freight driver who picks up your shipments can load each pallet into the back of their truck.

Choose an area within your warehouse for the storage of the pallets that you will be keeping onsite. Products that are steadily manufactured and that are large in size can be set on top of each pallet, allowing you to create an organized storage area that your shipping crew can collect items from.
